Description
This 1975 Chevrolet Monza Towne Coupe V8 is finished in factory-correct Firethorn Metallic (code 36L) with a contrasting Buckskin vinyl roof (code 64T), delivering one of the most attractive and upscale-looking colour schemes offered on Chevrolet’s premium subcompact coupe. The exterior features body-side and wheel-arch moldings, sport mirrors, round headlights, chrome bumpers and trim that elevate its presence beyond the base Vega platform. It rides on 13-inch steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings, fitted with 185/80 Maxxis narrow-whitewall tires, while the optional sport suspension and variable-ratio power steering provide sharper, more responsive handling than standard models. Power-assisted front disc brakes (rear drums) deliver confident stopping power for the era. Minor touched-up paint blemishes are present, but the body remains solid and straight with good panel alignment — a well-traveled yet carefully maintained survivor originally delivered to Usem Chevrolet in Austin, Minnesota.
Power is supplied by the optional 4.3-liter (262ci) V8 with two-barrel carburetor, factory-rated at 110 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque — a significant upgrade over the base four-cylinder that gives the Monza noticeably stronger performance and smoother refinement. Mated to a Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, it sends power to the rear wheels in classic RWD layout, enhanced by a Flowmaster muffler for a deeper exhaust note and a black underside coating for added protection. This drivetrain setup transforms the lightweight Monza into a more engaging and usable cruiser with genuine V8 character, far more desirable than the common inline-four versions.
The interior is trimmed in matching Dark Firethorn cloth (code 7IN) on the front and rear bucket seats, coordinated with dashboard, door panels, carpeting, and woodgrain accents for a cohesive, upscale cabin feel. A center console adds sporty flair, while amenities include air conditioning for comfort and a modern aftermarket digital stereo with auxiliary inputs (original factory radio included). The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column, framing a straightforward layout with 100-mph speedometer and fuel gauge. A small crack appears on the upper-left dashpad — typical age-related patina for 1970s plastics — but the cabin otherwise presents very well for the mileage, with bright upholstery and relatively fresh materials consistent with just 19,000 documented miles.
